Mentoring of a First-year Superintendent from a Business Manager’s Perspective       Slides Here

Being a new superintendent is hard work! Especially in a new district! Join a panel of seasoned business managers from different states as we compare and contrast the preparation and training of a superintendent who is new to the district and/or new to the superintendency. Our job is about more than just the finances; many times we act as a sounding board to the superintendent. The panel will share experiences and helpful hints to acclimate the new superintendent to your district, ensure a smooth transition, and assist with developing their entry plan. We will share ideas on how to act as a support system and ally. The panel will share ideas on how to provide history and background on stakeholder relationships and avoid pitfalls and landmines.

Presenters:

  • Marvin Dereef, Chief Financial Officer, Fulton County Schools
  • Maureen Jones, Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations, Community Consolidated School District 89
  • Mary Ellen Normen, School Business Administrator, Lincoln Public Schools

We will share ideas on how to act as a support system and ally.
